My shot this week is from a short tour of North Wales. This signal box was shot in the setting sun at Porthmadog. The light reflecting off the track leads the eye into the shot.

Welcome to a new midweek post. Every Wednesday a fresh monochrome image. This week is from a trip to Wales. A steam engine getting topped up with water.

A breezy and over cast day but a warm wind kept any chill at bay. This first photo is at the start of Strangford Lough at a place called Kilclief. I am here trying out new filters.
The small light marker is one of two at the mouth of the lough. Played around with setting here to see what I could product. This shot was converted to B&W and processed with’s Silver Efex Pro.Then it was a few more miles around the coast to St. John’s lighthouse. Here the wind was full on has it came around the headland.
Again a long exposure smoothed the water and clouds, again finished in Silver Efex Pro.
Then on the way home following the coast I spotted wind surfers out on the water, no filters on here. Using a 70 – 300mm lens on the Nikon D7200 I got this next shot hand held.
Across the bay you can see part of the Mourne mountains with Newcastle town at the base. Sunlight was throwing shafts of light through the clouds onto the water just off shore and the wind surfers zipping across the water in the strong winds. There its time for me to leave the coast and head inland home.

Started doing the first photo points on the IPR this year. There’s a link here which shows the map and rally points. You can do them in any order and have a few months to complete them. My first was number 8 on the map.

Then traveling south it was number 7 next, Ballinahowen Tree Sculptures
There are a few of these tree sculptures here so will do a post about these soon.
Still heading south to the next one number 13 on the map it was another tree sculpture in Banagher. It is called The Musician (J McEvoy) link

Then it was over to the town of Tullamore to see a friend and enjoy a coffee. Back on the road home in the evening sun with just short of two hundred miles covered, the buzz of riding is still there even after forty years of motorcycling.

There’s a different look on the lough, with the winter water fowl and duck’s away the summer residents have made a show. Back are the Great Crested Grebe, Mallard’s and the Mute Swan’s. Mute Swans pair up for life and seldom divorce. Courtship takes place in late winter with synchronised head dipping and necks and breasts pressed together. With their S shaped necks a heart shape forms during this ritual.
I shot this photograph last year and converted it to black and white. It shows the heart shape they form doing the above ritual.

The weir on the River Lagan in Lisburn Co.Antrim. It was the play of the lights on the water that caught my eye. I took a few at different shutter speeds to get a texture on the water when captured in that few seconds. This was shot was around the 26 seconds exposure.

Nobody Waiting
Wallace Park at 6.20am on a cold damp morning with the star’s shining in a clear sky. Just after this photo was taken. a group of joggers passed by and the dog walkers arrived. So a short chat with a couple wanting to know how I can take photo,s in the dark. It was time to pack up and head to work.
